Creative Spotlight: Space Oddities

October 21, 2010

Creative Spotlights are part of the THS dedication to Handmade Christmas 2010. I’m bringing you the goods, showing off the talents of some of my favorite creators!  Just a reminder, there are several different ways to participate, and several different reasons why you should consider joining us for Handmade Christmas 2010.

Today’s spotlight is a special spotlight.  It’s double the fun, double the creativity, and double the shout out to my favorite city in the entire world, Madison the capital of Wisconsin!

I first came across the wonders of Space Oddities while visiting the Dane County Farmers Market earlier this year.

Space Oddities is a fabulous husband and wife team. Andrea creates one-of-a-kind cards, pins, magnets and more made from recycled images and busts out the gocco to print her husband Chad’s fun designs on totes, shirts and screen printed note-cards. (How awesome are the Owl holiday cards above?)

Chad also provides creative inspiration and validation in the middle of the night when Andrea is too tired to know what is awesome and what is ridiculous. Andrea primarily crafts and creates late into the night when their kids are asleep.

“I love ripping up old magazines, books, comics, etc. to upcycle into fun one of a kind gifts and greeting cards. I have soft spot for pretty gift wrap and interesting craft papers which you will see in my work as well.” she shares.

I love that Space Oddities does a lot of upcycling in their products! Turning trash to treasure!

penantsAndrea is also a crafty blogger!  Visit her blog, Craft Therapy,  for tips and tricks in creating your own creative works, or to keep up with what’s new at Space Oddities.

I LOVE the “birds & branches” magnet set. I love magnets & have a ton of magnet boards adorning the walls of my apartment, aside from the obvious magnet-loving refrigerator. I also love birds. [On paper. Certainly not in real life.] And trees. Oh dear Lord, do I ever love trees.

I’m gonna have to go with the nerdiest answer possible and say that I love the “talk nerdy to me” and also the “recycled comic book” ones. Love.

IIIII like the Raining in my Heart magnet. It is just super cute. Also the cupcake. and the owl. and bird and branches. and the record party.
    I love them all.
    I want them all.
    In a jar.
Because I always see magnets/buttons in big jars in stores.
and jars are useful once they’re empty.

    …I’m tired today.
