Then I Ran 5 Miles

This morning I ran 5 Miles.
Wait, just one second here. 
Maybe you didn’t hear me.  I ran five miles.  Five. Miles. FIVE MILES.

 

After running two decent 4 milers this week, this morning’s training run has been looming over me like a rain cloud in Eeyore’s world.  The idea of my longest training run to date was slightly intimidating.  Jen recently told me that once I ran five miles, I would realize I could run anything.  But, could I run five miles? I almost expected that I would talk myself out of the run all together.  I imagined pushing snooze seven times, or deciding to go to the diner for a greasy breakfast instead of lacing up my sneakers. 

 

Because before I would have done that.   Before, I would have told myself I couldn’t.  Before, I would have talked myself out of trying.  Before, I would have just given up.

 

But sometimes, you surprise yourself.  Sometimes, you find a rhythm.  Sometimes, you push through.  Today I ran five miles, plus.  5.2 miles in 54:29. In 7 days, I will run six miles.  Then seven and a half. And on November 7th, I will run 9.3 miles.  

 

I’m not who I was before.  I’m who I am now.

    Nicely done! I’m new to running so 5 miles sounds like foreverrrrr! Hopefully I’ll be where you are some day. My 3 mile runs are about that same pace so you give me hope!

    this is awesome.

    I (used to be…) a runner. Then I had injuries.

    I am now *slowly* getting back into running. I miss that high. I miss finding that rhythm. Once I found that, I could run forever.

    I am both jealous of and HAPPY FOR you. 😀

    WAY TO GO HEATHER! You are a rock star. No really. YOU ARE. Obtaining PDRs are not an easy feat because of the mind games. But you overcame those…and now you know YOU CAN DO IT! So proud 🙂

    I read this last night on my phone but did not have the opportunity to comment until now. I am so proud of you!!! You are really making strides! 5 miles is no easy feat. I remember so vividly having that same mental block about 6 miles. It seemed impossible for so long. But once you break through it, and finally conquer the distance, you can do anything.

    I can’t wait to watch the rest of your progress.

    You are pretty amazing…to run 5 miles in such a good time. You must be a natural runner. So don’t dread your long runs, you are going to ROCK them!
