Creative Spotlight: Uniformity

August 20, 2010

If you’re new around these parts, you may not have heard that I’ve committed myself to a 100% Handmade Christmas 2010.  You may also not be familiar with my linking arms with various artists and creators to showcase creative spotlight and offer THS readers a little something extra in celebration of this awesome pledge to a handmade holiday.  I really encourage you to check out the intro to Handmade Christmas post, and consider joining me in a quest to bring more handmade gifts under the tree this year! You don’t need to commit to 100% handmade, there are several different ways to participate, and several different reasons why you should consider joining us for Handmade Christmas 2010.

This week, the creative spotlight feature is on the great etsy store, Uniformity. I found Uniformity when searching for local artists, and was pleased to find a selection of Albany, Saratoga, and Capital District etsy shops listed.  [did you know that you can “shop local” on etsy? it’s a great tool to find artists in your area!]

Uniformity is a shop featuring hand bound notebooks, sketchbooks, and journals.  Kate, Uniformity’s all start creator, makes all the items with care and love, with a focus on being as environmentally conscious as possible.

She uses recycled paper, postcards and other materials whenever possible in order to give a second life to a new, unique product.

Kate loves giving old materials a new life in blank books, waiting to be filled with the writings, drawings and dreams of their future owner. I find this magical.

So, let me hear it – What would fill the pages of your uniform notebook?

I would fill it with the little notes I leave to myself about why I’m good enough. I usually write them on post-its and leave them around the apartment but it would be nice to have a copy in a book to take with me places.

BTW this is a perfect gift for one friend of mine! I spent 2 hours on Etsy last night because of you while suffering with insomnia. Thanks for the new addiction 🙂

Definitely vacation planning. I LOVE vacation planning.

Hummm dirty little secrets? I would prolly fill it with quotes and reminders that will make my day 🙂

  5. August 20, 2010 6:10 pm

I would fill the pages with dream vacations and adventures and leave blank pages for documenting these adventures!

to do lists! and random scribbles of whales and palm trees. though the whales will probably look like a pile of mush. ❤

OMG, I NEED that! So freaking cute. I’d fill mine with letters to my daughter, since her current letter journal is almost full.

I’M IN LOVE WITH THAT. I’d probably use it to jot down my assignments for school (since I am going off memory at the moment and that’s extremely dangerous), which eventually would turn into doodling during class… 😀

Uniformity looks great, and I can’t think of anyone who would appreciate blank note pads the way you would 🙂

I would keep to do lists. My brain is extra forgetful lately, so if I don’t write things down, I will forget.

OHHH my my. I Love the one with the eggs on it!! These designs are amazing..totally up my alley! I would fill them with my recipes of course!

I would fill it with inspiring quotes and maybe a few photos. That way when I’m having a down day and need a pick me up, all I have to do is pick up the book.

  14. August 21, 2010 10:50 am

Ramblings. Wait.. I already have books full of those.

  15. August 22, 2010 5:01 am

I have been sort of dipping my toes into writing poetry again so I would try to fill the pages with that… I mean writing on the iPhone is cool and all but it would be nicer to write with a pencil and have something tangible

  16. August 22, 2010 9:26 am

I would fill it with book titles, creative cooking ideas, towns, restaurants and shops to visit – all of the recommendations and little discoveries I usually keep “organized” on a thousand little scraps of paper shoved into my ancient, soon to be retired calendar. This would be the perfect companion to a new smart-phone!

  17. August 22, 2010 4:33 pm

I’d use it for my many to-do lists!

  18. August 22, 2010 4:56 pm

Oooh, I’d filled it with doodles and to do lists. 🙂

  19. August 22, 2010 5:05 pm

I would fill it with ideas for blog posts! My mind is constantly reeling with ideas as I encounter new experiences, and I always say, “Oh, I’ll just remember.” But we all know how that goes…

The Uniformity products are beautiful. On my way to check out the site now!
