Are you there HLS-ers, it’s me HLS.

August 14, 2010

My birth certificate reads Heather Lee Shugarman.
I am HLS.

Are you here at Healthy Living Summit (HLS)?

[If not – have you seen #tweethls, yet? Bloggers/Readers not attending HLS are chatting in just a few minutes!]

If you are here, come up and say hello!  [please forgive me if I have some trouble remembering name/face/blog/twitter connections – I am feeling some major information OVERLOAD since arriving in Chicago!]

* Several U.S. Presidents have stayed at the hotel, bringing the Congress Plaza to once be known as the “Home of Presidents” among Chicago hotels.

*Grover Cleveland, William McKinley, Teddy Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, Woodrow Wilson, Warren Harding, Calvin Coolidge, and Franklin D. Roosevelt all held campaign strategy meetings at the Congress Hotel, including the command post for President Elect Franklin D. Roosevelt before taking office.

*In 1971, President Nixon gave a speech to 3,ooo people RIGHT IN THE GREAT HALL(where I am currently seated.)

group panel

At 1:40 PM, local time, I hope to see you at our panel discussion; The Ups and Downs of Pushing Publish: Getting Real About the Blogging Community. Led by Anne of fANNEtastic Food, Andrea, Julie, Sana and I will be sharing our experiences and guiding discussion on issues in blogging.

We will be having this fabulous conversation in the Great Hall – do you realize what this means? I WILL BE SPEAKING WHERE NIXON ONCE SPOKE. #presidentialFREAKOUT.

Find a travel buddy! To further my blend matchmaking, I set up a quick google doc of airport departure times so that we could each link up with other attendees to travel to the airport together when the sad, sad time of leaving one another arises.  You can find the spreadsheet here: HLS Airport Departures.  Add your own travel information, and find others who you can travel with to take the L, grab a cab, or wander the terminal together before boarding to head home.

P.S. In 1910, Theodore Roosevelt became the first U.S. President to fly in an aircraft, although he was no longer POTUS at the time.
